What are cookies?
Cookies are small strings of text that the websites visited by users send to their terminal, where they are stored in order to be retransmitted to the same websites the next time that the user visits that website.
For the purposes related to this note, cookies are divided up into technical and user profiling, according to the reason for which they are used, and in first party and third party cookies according to the individual that installs them.
Technical cookies
Technical cookies are used for the sole purpose of “performing the transmission of a communication on a network of electronic communication or, in the measure strictly connected with the supplier of a service of the information company specifically requested by the member or user to supply such service” (see art. 122 paragraph 1 of the Privacy Code).
Technical cookies are divided up into session browsing cookies (they guarantee normal browsing and use of the website), cookie analytics (similar to the technical cookies when used directly by the user of the website in order to collect information, in a general form, of the number of users and on how they visit the website itself) and functionality cookies (they allow the user to browse according to a whole range of selected criteria, such as for example, language, in order to improve the service provided).
For installation and use of the technical cookies, prior consent of the interested party is not necessary.
User profiling cookies
The user profiling cookies are used to send publicity messages in line with the preferences shown by the user in the field of browsing.
For use of the user profiling cookies, consent of the interested party is necessary.
Third party cookies
Considering the different individual that installs the cookies on the user’s terminal, according to whether or not the operator of the website is the same as the one that the user is visiting, or a different website that installs the cookies through the first one, it is characterised between first party and third party cookies.

How to disable the cookies

How to cancel cookies already saved in the terminal
Even if authorisation for the use of third party cookies is withdrawn, before such withdrawal, the cookies may be stored on the user’s terminal. For technical reasons, it is not possible to cancel these cookies, however the user’s browser allows for them to be eliminated among the privacy settings. The browser options contain the option “Cancel browser details” that can be used to eliminate cookies, website details and plug-ins.
